UKAEA’s mission is to deliver sustainable fusion energy and maximise scientific and economic impact. Fusion, the process that powers the sun, can play a big part in our carbon-free energy future.
The UK Atomic Energy Authority leads the world in fusion research with a wide range of programmes covering robotics, materials testing and development, and tritium science. Their scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of clean energy for tomorrow’s power stations.
UKAEA needed a sophisticated lecture theatre that would allow any lecturer to arrive, plug in their laptop and present, with no messing around with cables and presentation software. The lighting and sound also needed to be completely customisable, with a range of pre-sets available for all events.
We achieved everything that was required from the brief. The AMX platform, with our custom built programming, can set the lighting to the desired levels, enable speakers, microphones, amplification, projector and displays on the press of a single button.
The most impressive elements though are the voice lift system demonstrated in the video as well as the ability to effortlessly communicate with those joining remotely. As a result, the lecture theatre at UKAEA is one of the most advanced in the country.
I knew that on a large commercial project like this, with hard deadlines, teamwork and team effort from our knowledgeable and committed engineers would be essential. My engineering colleagues have given up weekends, evenings and family time to get this project completed with such high standards.
There were certainly some challenges along the way, the main one being a structural issue that meant the entire ceiling had to be replaced. This meant that we had to quickly adapt and change our microphone and speaker layout which we overcame very efficiently.
